Jeff and I said goodbye to the rest of the group yesterday after visiting the magnificent Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. We decided to add a train trip to our adventure and so since the last time i wrote we have had 2 tran rides, 2 taxi rides and have traveled a total of about 11 hours to a delightful small town high up in the mountains...

India Mission Trip Continues Day 12
After saying our goodbyes to the Compassion project on Sunday, Monday was our travel day. We began by heading to the airport at 4:30am only to discover that our flight was delayed due to fog (reminiscent of home). 6 hours after arriving at the airport, we boarded our flight to Delhi for the next phase of our trip. Once we landed in Delhi, we boarded a bus and drove down to the city of Agra (another 6 hours later), where we had a wonderful meal and then settled in to our hotel (with real "American" showers) in order to be up and at the Taj Mahal for sunrise on Tuesday...

Today was called ‘fun day’ and it was an opportunity for those members of the team who had sponsored children to spend a relaxing and fun day with their children. Each child was also able to bring one of their parents along....

India Thursday and Friday
Why are you working so fast?” This was one of the comments we got after completing our assigned work ahead of schedule! The original plan was for the team to assist in preparing the floor in the church building for tiling – a task which was completed in 2 days. We can’t really take sole credit for this because the ‘real work’ was done by a few local builders who were the professionals – our work was to carry the sand, stones and cement into the building where these men compacted it and prepared the floor for tiling. Nevertheless, Hillside can be proud of the hardworking team...

India Mission Trip Tuesday and Wednesday
The last two days have been a whirlwind of energy spent and love and joy received! Yesterday began the phase of our trip where we entered into the routine of devotion, morning manual labor, lunch, afternoon manual labor, learning more about the Compassion ministry at our site, coffee and tea, and then free time with the exuberant, exhausting, and utterly delightful children, and then home to dinner and team debriefing time. Here are a few highlights:

India Mission Trip Monday
Today was our first ‘working’ day on the trip and it consisted of visits to the India head offices of Compassion International and the International Justice Mission – both of which are in Chennai.

What we thought was going to be a day consisting only of rest and orientation, concluded with a wonderfully surprising welcome reception at ‘the project’.

After two pretty long flights and a 13 and ½ hour time change we are finally in Chennai.

Ready to Leave - February 10th
A team of 21 members of Hillside Covenant Church are heading for Chennai, India where we will link up with Compassion International. In our first week we will be working on a project and visiting children - several of which are sponsored by members at Hillside.
