Work project and crafts at Vision Celestial
Today we had the joy of spending time with the children doing crafts and working on the next phase of the church building construction, which is a second floor.
Without a doubt, the most joyous and fun is spending time with the kids. They love having us here and the things that we do with them. Today was a craft day, and kids had an opportunity to make a cross keychain with beads.
As we shared our experiences together this evening, we shared many stories of our experiences with the kids; how kids came in and hugged members of the team – just because, how kids that had been shy over the years have begun to blossom and express themselves with confidence, and how one girl remembers Sarah visiting five years ago, sitting in a chair under a fan and pregnant. These kids love to see us, whether we have been here before or not. For many of them we provide positive encouragement that is lacking in their lives. Our being present is relational and has an enormous impact on them. The expression of love that we receive in return is powerful and life changing.
For the work project, we assisted with enclosing an area under the outside stairway to be used for storage, and the first layer of concrete blocks for the second story of the building. Alta Gracia’s brother is the builder. He is not a Christian, and Alta Gracia is excited for us to work with him so that he can see God’s love at work. He is the one who is actually doing the massonary work, and we were just there to be hod carriers, haul a mound of sand to the roof, and haul the blocks up to the roof for the first layer of the wall on the second floor. This second floor will be used for programs that are currently having to be housed in rented properties.
Today there are few words compared with the experience. Not a lot of facts, but great impact.
“When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of god like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children into his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.
